The founding and legacy of Benjamin Lodge No. 138
Founding of the Lodge
Benjamin Lodge No. 138 was granted its warrant on December 8-9, 1930, by Most Worshipful Grand Master Thomas A. Brown, Grand Master of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania.
The lodge was established in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, during a time of great social and economic change in America. Despite the challenges of the Great Depression, the founding brothers came together with a shared vision of brotherly love, relief, and truth.
The lodge was named in honor of Benjamin, a figure representing wisdom and dedication to the craft. From its inception, Benjamin Lodge No. 138 has been a pillar of the Prince Hall Masonic community in Western Pennsylvania.

The charter members who founded Benjamin Lodge No. 138 included both officers and other members of the Craft who dedicated themselves to establishing a lasting Masonic presence in Pittsburgh.

Milestones in the journey of Benjamin Lodge No. 138 — a legacy of leadership, service, and brotherhood spanning nearly a century.
Past Master E. D. Newsome was appointed to the post of Right Worshipful Grand Chaplin of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of PA, becoming the first member to hold a Grand Lodge office.
Brother Sancho Robinson Jr. was raised into Benjamin where his father was also a member and serving as Senior Warden, providing us with our first legacy in Benjamin.
Under the leadership of Worshipful Master William Weaver, 20 Brothers were raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason.
Past Master Roscoe B. Coleman was appointed to the position of the Worshipful Grand Historian.
Past Master Roscoe B. Coleman was appointed to the Editor in Chief of the Light Magazine, the statewide publication for the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of PA.
Past Master Thomas H. Davis was appointed to the position of Worshipful District Lecture for the First Masonic District of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of PA.
Past Master Robert L. Ximines, Jr. was appointed to the position of District Deputy Grand Master for the First Masonic District.
Past Master Wayne A. Morrison was appointed to the position of Worshipful State Director of Education and Masonic Culture.
Past Master Brian I. Austin was appointed to the position of Worshipful Grand Assistant Convention Coordinator Director.
Past Master Eric D. Williams was appointed to the position of the Second Vice President of the First Masonic District.
Past Master Issac Jones was appointed to the position of First District Lecture of Deborah Grand Chapter, O.E.S.
Past Master Edwin F. Montoute, Jr. was appointed to the position of Director and Editor in Chief of the Light Magazine.
